Costa Rica: Looking for a Handout

Every morning at breakfast these guys have figured out where to go for food. They are called Pizotes or Coati. They are like raccoons. They hang out on the side of the kitchen at the hotel's restaurant.

One of the waiters told me to give them some fruit.
I wanted to get one to eat out of my hand but I heard one waiter say to another under his breath, "They're going to bite him."
So I just tossed the papaya to them.

What an odd thing for them to do to you..."Yes, Jorge, yes, feed them. mwahaha!"
Those little things are like anteater-raccoons. Antcoons. Racooters. Ha, yes, Racooters it is. These creatures are acceptable to me as I find them cute. They better keep up the cute too...or else.

They are very funny!

Perhaps, they are the friends with rooster. Maybe They ask to you autographs but you think that they want to eat.

Cool! They look friendly enough, but I'm glad you didn't feed them from your hand. Yikes!

It reminds me of the time we had a sociable little raccoon visit our deck for an evening meal in the cabin we were staying at in the Smokies.

Did they have to fight over it? It looks like they're all about to pounce!

Huh.. It's odd to think things I've only seen in a zoo are actually common pests somewhere.

I wonder if they keep Possums in zoos in other places.

That's horrible! He was just going to let them bite you and then laugh about it later with his waiter friend. Of course I might do that kind of thing too .... jk *smirk*

A friend of mine had a coati as a pet. He had a habitat for it, because it was vicious. Good thing you didnt feed it from your hand.

Ack! Have you ever seen a wild raccoon up close? Those things will rip your face off if you give them half a reason. I'm so happy you decided not to feed them from your hand.

Who's that speaking spanish in the background? She speaks wonderfully. I love her accent.

So you just feed random animals from your hand? Brave man.

Hey Jorge.....

Thanks for sharing your Life Adventures with us, I usually like to check up on u, Its like...what is Jorge up to. You are the coolest of them all!! I met you once and u were very nice to everyone but Desmond the one with the awful accent was very rude, I took only 2 pictures of him and he said "don't u think you have enough pictures of me?"(with his silly accent) He's not even that popular on LOST!! I don't even know his real name. Who cares!! Whew!! Sorry for sharing this with u but I had to get it off my chest!! I feel much better now...hehehe. (good therapy);D

Have a good one!! You're the Best!!

Coati! I couldn't remember what those little critters were called but I remember seeing them when I was in Guatemala a few years back. They were the most domesticated of the jungle animals we ran into. All about the human scraps. Cute little buggers too.

With all those red flowers in the foreground, I'm suspicious that they might have been the smoke monster.
