A Modest Request

Can we please agree on one form of 3-D?
I'm just getting tired of having to get a new pair of glasses every time there's a new 3-D gimmick.

When I was a kid I had to find a 7-Eleven that carried the glasses that were red in one eye  and blue in the other so that I could get the full effect of Revenge of the Creature on KTLA.

Then there was the 3-D where one lens was just darker than the other one.

Then there was Captain EO. (Well that wasn't a problem they gave you glasses as you came in.)

But then we have "Real D" which some theaters charged for the glasses while others gave them out. And I've already discussed my issue with them on a previous blog.

And this last week I had to go find the glasses for the Super Bowl ads and the episode of Chuck coming up. These are blue and yellow.

I guess it's just me. But when I find out I have to go hunt something down in order to better appreciate television, it creates stress. Hawaii gets things late sometimes. You never know if your stores are "participating." I don't need this stress. So if you still feel you have to use 3-D to tease us, can we agree on one? This way, I can keep the glasses in a drawer and grab them when I need them.

I think "Real D" is the best type of 3D I've seen so far. However, it being a Disney creation, I don't know how much other studios would pick up on it.

Agreed! I have a 3d glasses draw at home (it has other things in as well, i'm not that lame) But could I watch Hanna Montana concert with any of thm? No, gutted (!)

Cellophane and cardboard, mate. Make your own! :D

Anonymous said...

It could have been worse, when we were little my sister and I had to MAKE OUR OWN.

My Mum brought us a bunch of green and red cellophane and we'd spend an afternoon trying to fashion something that even remotely resembled 3D glasses!

It totally ruined the 3D watching experience!

I think it is just a gimmick to drive us crazy. Totally agree.

I agree with you...its to see how crazy we are.

Time to create 3-D glasses with about five layers to them À la mad scientists...you just click one layer down for Real D, etc...patent that action!!!

I agree!
But I must say...You kind of look like you can be a Super Hero with those glasses you have on. All you need is a cape ;D
Nunu can be your side kick while you fight crime!

Yep gotta say he does look like a superhero, maybe that's gonna be his next arc in lost!?

I'm mad that the lady in front of us in line at the store grabbed the entire stack of glasses the other day. So we weren't able to watch the Superbowl ads last night. What do we do about Chuck tonight???

Makes sense to me...

I'm just happy that you're a Chuck fan. :o)

Beth said...

Jules they have them at walmart and the dollar general stores, just to name a few. you should be able to find a pair. the greeter at the door of our walmart had them. good luck

Amanda said...

I had to go to three different stores to find them, but it's worth it for Chuck

Aunt_B said...

I totally remember going to 7-Eleven to get the 3D glasses!! I think there was a King Kong 3D back in the "day".

Amie R. said...

I just realized last night that I'd need 3-D glass for Chuck tonight and now I have to go hunt some down because of course an old pair from Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D will not work. >:/

Grete said...

Agreed! I plan to wander around the grocery store today in search of 3-D glasses to view tonight's Chuck...

Lost, The Office, and Chuck are the only shows I watch, so I have to be accommodating when they make me do this kind of extra "work"!

Capcom said...

So true Jorge, good post! And, once they eventually settle this problem (or, we accumulate every kind of 3D glasses there are), can we please bring our own glasses to the theater instead of having to pay extra for the movie and buy another new pair everytime time a 3D movie plays?

:-p

The key word here is gimmick. In this case, I'm sure there's some capitalization going on. LOL

I saw someone last night with a pair of 3D glasses, and I didn't know what they were for until I saw the commercials for the new Chuck. Now I need to find out where in the world I need to go to get them!

Do you speak spanish, Jorge?

You have a lot fans in Spain!!!

I love your blog!!! ;-)

I agree! Hey no one mentioned the Drew Carey show was in 3D, glasses given at 7-11!

The best 3D ever was the Star Trek Borg Invasion at the Las Vegas Hilton. Too expensive, but the 3D was awesome. The nano probes came right up to your face and they poked you thru the chair and blew air on your face!

It would be nice if they told you which format you need prior. Do I need Real D, red & blue, blue & yellow, or some other color combination?

Of course, the whole purpose of getting you out the door to find those glasses is so you will look at their product nicely stacked next to the 3-D glasses. If we simply have a drawer full of glasses, they lose out on the potential to sell more crap to people who don't really need it. Like me. :)

Hey dude, my older sister got me into Lost in season 2. Since I'm a big dude as well; Hurley was my instant fav!

I have an issue with the 3D specs as well. I wear glasses and have a stigmatism to boot. I once paid to watch Jaws 3D and couldn't watch it! At least those cheaper red and blue ones work on me, somtimes.

If there are any medical research people out there, please start working on an insertable 3D lens! Think about the $$$ the company you work for would make -- with a few pennies your way.

Cya,
Dan

PS: My sister and I love: LOST, Heroes, Chuck, NCIS, Burn Notice (too cool!), Monk and Psyche. It's cool that you watch Chuck.

lol i remember when, lol they would give them to ya at the movies. my eye sight sucks and can't use the goofy glasses. wish i could thow, lol. they never worked right and never will, just a gimick. they have been trying to make a tv set that shows all in 3d,lmao, it floped. yea can ya see them making lost in 3d? they should had done it on the first one with the jet crashing in 3d,coool,lol.

Uhm, hello? Just get bionic super eyes installed...'nuff said.

ValMo said...

I should've grifted the pair that a billion other people also wore for the Toy Story ride at Disneyland.

Christina Bauer said...

I agree completely! One kind would be very beneficial to all, except that the glasses had about 4 different ads on them, so I be lots of money went into those. Either way, the episode of Chuck didn't even have to much 3D content, it was mostly just normal stuff, but I still enjoyed it...especially with Dominic!

Shohom67 said...

Totally cool episode of Chuck. No 3D Glasses are no problem.

Still wanna know what WAS 3D. On principal if nothing else.

2 days 'til LOST

Kelli Estes said...

You can imagine my frustration then...I'm blind in one eye so those glasses with a different color for each lens do nothing for me!

Beth said...

if you missed it, they are airing Chuck again tonight.

Unknown said...

I avoid commercials, articles, and spoilers at all costs for all shows so I had no idea that Dominic Monaghan was going to be guest starring on Chuck and reprising his rock star persona, how great was that?!

Unknown said...

And don't forget the 3-d red/blue (if I remember correctly) glasses that were included in the Nintendo game, Rad Racer. I remember trying to play without them one time and almost had a seizure!

The Dharmalars said...

do you remember when Chuck Henry did that Eye on L.A. that was in 3D? I remember the Boom Mic and Flying Disc. That was rad. Is it just me or does that "Real 3D" that they showed with Chuck more painful on the eyes than it should have been?

My Chuck 3-D experience last night gave me a headache. I finally had to watch in 2-D.

But I remember way back when a university (which shall remain nameless) had a soft porn 3-D movie fest. WOW and I mean double WOW. Now that was 3-D.

Ali said...

if it makes you feel better, in Canada we don't get the good Superbowl commercials...we get the lame Canadian feed instead. i don't really know why that should make you feel better....but it means that *i* didn't need to get special 3d glasses ;)

jennc98 said...

A little secret...shhhhh
If you go to Disney, and go into the "PhilharMagic" Mickey 3D show (which is sooo totally awesome to watch the kids stick their little paws out to grab at stuff that's not there)...they give you these off the charts 3d glasses that are plastic sunglasses. No red...no blue..no paper. And when you leave, there's a HUGE bin of them that you drop yours into. Grab you a few(disinfect them bc u just dunno who wore them last)and Voila! You have not only REALLY stylin 3d glasses that you can wear all day long and no one will know(I guess in case random 3d things happen thoughout ur day) but you will also have them for all of these 3d things that you forget to get the appropriate glasses for. Try it,man,I'm telling you, it won't disappoint.

I agree, this 3-D problem has got to be fixed, and soon! It shouldn't cost alot either. They just want to make more money.

I have a couple of 3D glasses I could mail you if you would like. They might be some you could use. I got them in a box of stuff at a sale and kept them just for nostalgia.

Oh god, they need to come up with some industry standard for 3D, so each time you need to see something in 3D you can use the same pair of 3D glasses.

I think that they should make a standard -- see Jorge, you're starting a movement -- AND make some that will fit over the front of my glasses. Like they do with sun glasses.
