Ouch! Well I'll just spam you with a great big (((((((HUG)))))))) how about that?

Might I recommend a different blogging platform?

I took a look through Blogger's commenting system back end and didn't see much in the way of avoiding spam. No way to extend it for that capability either.

For that, I'd recommend checking out wordpress.com - they'll at least allow you to filter out spam, and in addition you get access to some extensions that might allow you to do more with your blog.

If you need some help with any of that, or have any questions, I'd be happy to help.

Oh no! That's depressing!!!!!

Hahahha. Don't worry. Post something completely random and I'm sure you'll get plenty....of non-spam-related comments. :)

I sympathize. My blog has been overrun by spam lately, too.

Which is why I thought you might appreciate a *real* comment. :)

Always a disappointment when spam out weights inbox in your emails

i'd agree. if you plan on keeping this blog going well after "the show" finishes it's run, a move to wordpress may do you good. i think you'll even be able to import all the entries from here to there (maybe even comments...? i can't remember).

It's hell being popular, ain't it?

Sarah said...

there is a commenting system, Disqus, that can help you not have to baby-sit this blog. the link is here: http://disqus.com/comments/

its not spam. i promise!

Jorge!
I can't believe it's almost over! What are we going to do w/o you guys? You have got to land another tv series or do movie after movie so we can continue to see you. Seriously I told my husband last night how sad I'm going to be when Lost is over. It's so fun to watch, so entertaining I can't believe it when the hour is over, and just plain GREAT TV! Nothing has ever compared or ever will. HURLEY ROCKS!
Have a great day.
Amy

I second Ben's recommendation to checkout Wordpress.com. They use http://akismet.com/ by default for spam blocking. They also make it very easy to import previous entries from Blogger into a new Wordpress blog, so you don't loose any content. The management tools, editing tools, and statistics views are all much better as well.

You know, you are far too nice. I'd have disapproved at least half of them, just on the principal of the thing.

Jorge,

That's why you get paid the big bucks. Just be thankful you don't live in Kazakhstan - I hear there only on season two of Lost. :P

people suck. When I grow up I'll never be people. (I have a grief blog- I get 30 or 40 viagra ads -makes me nuts, cos they're in Chinese.)

Cheese Curds. Better than spam.

I'm not a famous actor, but I get a few spam comments every day mixed in with the real people. I just delete them quickly, but I imagine you probably don't have time to sit around and do that. I'm not sure who they think will be clicking on their links, so it just makes me angry. I hope you figure something out. :)

I second (or third)the Wordpress.com suggestion. It's REALLY easy to import a Blogger blog into Wordpress.com, basically, you just enter the info and all posts and comments import in a matter of seconds. And Wordpress.com includes Akismet, which is a GREAT antispam for blogs. I seriously can't recommend it enough.

I have had two spam comments on my blogspot, and had two Russian's add me on my livejournal. The Russian girls appear to have legit accounts, but the amount of people they have added has led me to think their accounts have been taken over by bots.

Spam sucks. Even the canned stuff. :-)

wordpress or typepad should be your new lover. cheese curds!

Lyndon said...

I'm guessing that you get more than regular bloggers though, because of your celebrity status.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter what system you use (I use Disqus, still get spam), if you have comments on your blog, your going to have to deal with spam.

It sucks, but it's the truth :(

that sucks bites and blows

I agree with Ben about going with Wordpress. It's easy to install and use, and there are tons of anti-spam widgets. I'm using 3 on my blog right now.

This news makes me sad. I'm not famous or on an awesome TV show, so only my friends read my blog. All of my comments are real.

So I'm leaving you a real comment. I appreciated your post about Chile the other day. I went to that website you suggested and donated to the relief efforts. Thanks for suggesting it!

Oh lordy X:-( One of the side effects of being popular i guess sighhhh...

I'm not sure if its available for use with blogger, but I use Akismet on my (wordpress) blog, which is really helpful. Basically whenever a comment/link/ping is submitted to your blog it runs it by the Akismet Server, which returns a thumbs up or thumbs down. It catches most (around 99.9%) of the spam that comes through. Maybe check it out?

Kauri said...

Man, that sucks. I hope that Disqus will do the trick or at least bring it down to a more manageable level. I love your blog and I really hope the frustration on your end doesn't outweigh the enjoyment factor.

collettemn said...

Damn. That's crap. But ya know what? I think it's awesome that YOU are the one in charge of your blog rather than some web master. The same thing goes for the podcast you and Beth do. So many actors don't have such a connection with their fans and followers. I mean, come on - I sent you a note and you responded personally within two weeks. That's unheard of, especially since it went from Connecticut to Hawaii! You are one of my favorite actors not only because you are amazing in LOST, and one of my favorite episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm when you did a cameo, but because you develop an actual relationship with your fans as a whole.

I hear yah. I had a short lived blog with some people and the spam got unbearable. When you only get 2-4 comments a post having 80 spam is not cool.

Kate @ Loving Life said...

Sorry you're getting spammed out! This was post was enough for me to say HI! So you had more than one comment that wasn't spam, but you obviously already have that ;)

boooo! spam is ebil! (unless it comes in a can then it's yummy goodness)

I get a lot of that through Wordpress, but I totally forgot about adding DisQus to mine.... thank you, Sarah H., for the reminder!

Sorry sir. Once you're a success the barnacles come running...

Do barnacles run? :S

I don't really have that problem. The spamming thing, not runny barnacles.

Spam sucks!! Though I hear Hawaiians love Spam ;) Sorry they're annoying you, it's got to be a pain in the butt. Love the Podcast by the way, you guys are awesome.

Jorge, Ditto about other exploring other blogging software for your blog, namely Wordpress which has excellent Spam protection (Akismet) built-in.-Jed

You can Change your comments to Disqus I did with my blog and it's soooooo much easier to Moderate.

It's free too!

So uncool. Sorry man -- I love to read your random musings and am sorry you have people thinking they'll somehow scam someone into paying them for something by commenting on a celebrity's blog. Boo!

sorry to hear of your spam problem.
i personally rarely use blogs, and tend to go more for the forum based system. i use ipb, and depending how you set it up, you will be 100% spam free.
i love forums, and they can be good fun to work with, especially if you have it set up on your own server rather than one of these free services.
anyway, keep up the good work dude, your doing an excellent job.

but what happens after lost is finished?
do we all wander off into the sunset never to talk to each other again???
