:) then :( then LMAO

I was so surprised to see the Wienermobile in Kaneohe the other day. Seeing the Wienermobile is like seeing Haley's comet, years may go by before you get a chance to see it again. :)

But then I was saddened to hear that it might have been around because Oscar Mayer had just passed away. :(

We googled it at lunch and this popped up:

Oscar G. Mayer, the meat processing exec whose wiener delighted generations of Americans, has died at the age of 95.

LMAO

Truth be told I was surprised that an actual person named Oscar Mayer would still be alive. I mean how old is that company? One thing I can say though, I'm pretty sure those jingles will live forever.

Ha! That made my night. Hysterical! Sad too... but mostly hysterical.

Dude, Oscar Meyer died??!?!? That sucks.

I saw the news about Mr. Mayer as well. I did not, however, ever see that quote before. Glad his weiner delighted so many people. :)

That is pretty cool though that the weinermobile was in HI! I see it every year when I put my weinermobile christmas ornament on my tree. It even plays the tune! :)

How do you get a wienermobile to Hawaii? By ship? How long does that take? How much does it cost? So many questions.

SwampAngel65 said...

Oh, I wish I was an Oscar Mayer weiner...yeah, that's sad. But still really cool you saw the weiniemobile! I've never seen one but I do have an itty bitty toy of one. I think it's a whistle, too...

Indeed, it is a rare, perhaps once-in-a-lifetime treat to see the Weinermobile live and in person. I have been lucky enough to see it twice. :)

Even more awesome...check out what I bought off craigslist last weekend:

http://daddytypes.com/2009/06/17/so_you_wish_you_had_an_oscar_mayer_wienermobile_pedal_car.php

They normally go for $300-400 on ebay, but we got ours for $150. I guess the guy didn't know what he was sitting on (or not sitting on, for that matter - apparently they only hold up to 70 lbs. :(). Our future children WILL love it, haha.

The wienermobile (or one of them) was in my hometown a few weeks back, parked in front of a local hotel. It was headed to an event at the nearby Army post, Ft. Campbell. It was cool seeing it :-)

What a coincidence to get this news today, considering what I just saw at the 711.

Someone apparently abandoned a dog (bun and condiment-less) near the fountain drinks. The cashier felt the need to rescue it and dump it back into the warmer with the other rotating meat products. !!!

R.I.P. Mr. Mayer.

well, maybe Ron Jeremy.

Hey at least you can now say you have seen the weinermobile of oscar mayer.

Seeing the wienermobile up close is one of those life-changing moments...and it only gets better with each additional sighting. I heard about Oscar's passing...really too bad. But the smiles he brought to kids faces, mine included, definitely earns him a spot in the ever-after. RIP.

This is the third Oscar Mayer. His grandfather, who started the company, died in 1955.

My condolences to Oscar's 23-year-old wife.

I'm with Ron. And why does Hawaii get the Weiner honors? Wouldn't it have been better placed in Wisconsin? Just way way too many questions.

I have yet to see the weinermobile. maybe someday.

I've only seen the Weinermobile once in my life, it passed me going the opposite direction on I-95 in North Carolina.

It was just like the only time in my life when I when I was actually passing a Krispy Kreme when the light came on, I damn near had a wreck trying to whip my car around in the middle of the road.

if i had a guy whos weiner would make me that happy i wouldn't have been married 3 times..oh well, maybe i would have too..

Not everyone likes to see the Weinermobile.

Sarah said...

I saw it near the Aloha Stadium and then over at Sand Island (we were getting our van) within a week of each other recently. I laughed about it 'cos I always wanted to just see it . . . and then I move to Oahu and see it twice.

Why do so many Americans fail at spelling Wiener (Würstchen)?

It's related to Vienna, not to a weeping person =D

Miztification said...

The last time I saw the Wiener mobile was on the campus back when I was in college. (I'm 36 now, so I guess that would have been over a decade now...Time sure flies.)

I had no clue that there were three Oscar Mayers. I'm sorry I had to find out this way. My condolences go out to the family too.

The song...that was one of the first songs my mother taught me/sang to me.

I guess I'm more fortunate than most. I live near Dearborn, Michigan, where you can see the wiener-mobile inside the Henry Ford Museum anytime. Some 15 years ago, my Dad and I took my then-five-year-old nephew to the museum. He was thrilled to have his picture taken next to it -- something he remembers to this day! RIP, Oscar Mayer! (And thanks for all the jingles!)

Your surprise at seeing the Weinermobile is quite cute. Here in Wisconsin, it's just another car! This is, after all, the land of the racing sausages... (Come to a Milwaukee Brewers game. You'll see what I mean.)

On the up side, we also have Harley Davidson. :)

OK, that epitaph is just too funny! It's said he died, but he still made us smile.

Love your work on Lost and can't wait to see next season!

I never knew the man, but I am sorry, since his weiner was so delightful! I never knew he was real either. We saw the weinermobile last year at the grocery store and the escorts for it had weinermobile whistles for all the kids. No mom wants her kids to have MORE whistles!

You know what? If you fly through Detroit and are in the Northwest terminal, there is a Ford store. They promote the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI and sell car related knick knacks..they sell matchbox car size weiner mobiles. It is too cool.

Did you see the Wienermobile crashed into a house in Wisc. this morning (I don't want to kill the joy of people thinking there's only one). And, as with the dog thing... reminds me of a little book from Urban Outfitters "Labs with Abs." Really creepy, but I had to buy it for my best friend. He agreed that it was creepy.

I once met the man who was the first driver of the Wienermobile. He began working for Oscar Mayer during the Great Depression. He was a very small (thin and short, under 5 feet) person, which is one reason they hired him. The design of the first wienermobile made it difficult for a taller person to drive.

Sadly, reported on Friday:

See photo: http://www.miamiherald.com/news/weird-news/story/1146685.html

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. -- One southern Wisconsin homeowner is probably not in love with the Oscar Mayer wiener. The famed hot dog's Wienermobile crashed Friday into the deck and garage of a home in Mount Pleasant, about 35 miles south of Milwaukee.

Police said the driver was trying to turn the Wienermobile around in the driveway and thought she was moving in reverse. But she instead went forward and hit the home. It sat in the driveway as if it were stuck in the garage Friday afternoon.

No one was home and no one was injured. No citations were immediately issued.

Both the home and vehicle suffered moderate damage, which Oscar Mayer spokeswoman Sydney Lindner says insurance will cover.
