Vanaqua: Behind the Glass

Then we got to go behind the scenes at the aquarium.

We saw some baby clown fish. There were smaller ones than these. But these actually show up better (and look like clown fish). I'm holding a penny up to the glass to give a sense of size.
There once was a time when someone owned a clown fish and named it something cute and original like "Puddles" but nowadays all clown fish are "Nemo." These two little fellas on the left are Nemo and Nemo. The other two are their reflection.

We saw a snake that they were apparently training to "go" on the paper.
Here I am holding little turtle.
Here I am finding out that the turtle has an eye infection.
Not pictured, me going to buy some Purell.

In the rain forest room we got to hold a butterfly.
And we watched a sloth eat tofu.

Hmm... a sloth, reptiles... I have a sneaking suspicion this aquarium is a zoo.

I love sloths!! I didnt know they lived at aquariums.

See, you need to have some kids. When you have kids you carry Purell everywhere because Kids are germy!

You saw the Sloth eat tofu!? 20 years I've been going to the Vancouver Aquarium and in all that time I have never even seen the sloth move. I was convinced that it had died and they'd stuffed it years ago.

Jorge,

That's why I say that Vancouver is not part of Canada! It's too cosmopolitan.

Snakes can be trained?

Cool pics. That reminds me of when I went to the Peruvian Amazon and got to hold all kinds of interesting animals. I have a picture of myself holding a little monkey and another with a snake around my neck.

ohjies! you forgot to mention the fact that i got to name the eye infected turtle MEGADEATH!

and i like the fact that you say you saw "Sloth eat tofu" instead of A sloth because it makes it sound like we saw the guy from The Goonies. but seeing him eat tofu would probably make me barf.

Jorge,

This is going to sound very bold… but I’m just crazy enough to ask.

Over the past year, I’ve been writing a feature with you in mind as the lead. It’s a silly/sweet story about a guy named Frank, a professional invisible friend, who just isn’t very good at his job.

I realize I’m reaching for the stars here, but I’d love to talk more with you about it. If you’re still in Vancouver (and even if you’re not), and you’d like to hear more, give me a shout and let me know if you’d be interested in helping an up and coming writer’s dream come true.

Those fish are cute. Thanks for the penny scale.

Love the face holding the turtle. Cute. Purell is a necessity.

If a snake has a triangular head, it's best to shoot first and ask questions later.

Hey there Jorge - I just found your blog so I'm doing a LOT of catching up.

Anyway, that snake is a Columbian Red Tailed Boa Constrictor. I've got a 2 1/2 year old one, myself. Newspaper is the cheapest bedding you can put in a tank. I wish, oh man do I wish, I could train Rocky to go in one spot. Then again, he's 5 1/2 feet long, so he does whatever he wants. hahah

Love your blog so far. You're awesome.

<3,
Nic
