2 Days Before Halloween

And Safeway totally jacked up the price of their pumpkins.
Last week I paid 39 cents a pound.
But today they're at 79 cents a pound.

Kind of a d. move Safeway.
I'm just sayin'.

  1. ok thats way uncool. Especially because you are paying a way higher price than the rest of us mainlanders in the first place.

  4. I paid 49 cents at that Times grocery store in Pearl. Good for you for finding some though! There was a mad rush of us mothers out at the last minute trying to get them!

  6. and this is why safeway is evil. Trust me, I know... They stole 3 1/2 years of my life. Working retail is 10 times worse when it's grocery retail.

  7. I went today and it was .69 cents a lb. They have a monopoly though- the only store in K town that has them still!

    Happy Halloween!

  14. You buy them by the pound?? Jeeeez, their half price down at the farm market here, which means they are about $2.00.. in total!!

  15. Just Econ 101: "supply & demand." Demand for pumpkins increases to highest point of the year. Thus, price increases.

  17. That stinks. I paid 9 cents a pound the other day - but I don't live on in an island paradise either.

  18. I didn't know they still sold pumpkins by the pound! I live in the Bay Area and all the stores around here, including Safeway sell pumpkins by set prices depending on their size - small, medium, large, which range in price from about $1.99-$8.99.

Today, I bought a small pumpkin at CVS for only 50 cents! They had 4 big containers of small pumpkins that they're still trying to sell off.

  19. Well, my local fruit and veg shop is selling "Halloween Pumpkins" for $30. They have two for sale. We don't really do Halloween here (Australia). But good on 'em for trying, hey?

  20. I never gave this a thought, but are pumpkins native to Hawai.
Surely they aren't shipped from the mainland.
