Piggly Wiggly is a real place. Not just something made up on TV.

  1. Haha! That's great. Wonder why we don't have any of those in CA?

Now is there such thing as a Winn-Dixie as well?

  3. Oh great that totally makes me fell like I live in, as someone put it today "Bumblefuck, Nowhere" Because we totally have those. I didn't even know they were on tv.

  5. Piggly Wiggly was founded here in Memphis in 1916. It was the first self-serve grocery.

  6. My husband always teases me about the Piggly Wiggly, which is a fine, upstanding institution (haven't told him about Winn-Dixie yet). I never knew I grew up in a Southern family until I came to California and they didn't know about that, or chicken and dumplings, ham and beans and fried potatoes - sigh. LOL

  12. Jorge you must be in the middle of nowhereville cuz we have one here and we are as country as country gets! I've only seen them in small rural towns but I haven't traveled that far so I could be wrong.

  13. You should try the Lick-A-Chick Restaurant in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia. They boast the "Worlds Best Hamburger" and I believe them!!

  14. You've obviously never been to the south. You can't turn a corner around here without seeing one. They always remind me of driving miss daisy when morgan freeman says, I'm comin to drive you to the sto'. He was talking about the Piggly Wiggly. Oh yeah...it's famous!

  16. Oh, wow. I'm from Georgia and we literally have those everywhere. lol. I'm actually amazed that some people have never heard of it. hehe.

  17. I'm in San Antonio, Tx. We used to have those everywhere, now they are all gone I think. Ever seen a Handy Andy? I think we still have a couple of those left. My Dad used to manage one and fell in love with one of his checkers when they were kids..... my Mommy is HAWT! :)

  18. I'm from Georgia, too, and they are very prevalent in the more rural areas of the state. I've even seen a smaller grocery store by the same company that was called "Piglet."

  19. I remember Handy Andy from when I was growing up in Quebec. :-)

  21. I use to shop there in Nebraska, and never could get use to the clerk saying "Thank you for coming to Piggly Wiggly".

I would always giggle and walk out. I'm sure they were thinking, "Stupid Colorado people."

  22. LOL! I never knew they really existed! I guess Piggly Wiggly stores are not a California thing

  23. Piggly Wiggly is all over Mississippi. One of the Cohen's brothers wore the PW shirt during the filming of O Brother Where Art Thou (filmed in Canton, MS).

  24. I had someone ask me recently what a Piggly Wiggly was. She relocated to the South and had never heard of it. I thought they only existed in NC and Winn Dixie too! Was surprised to see it elsewhere. You can get some good deals on meats :)
