Xmas in Wisconsin

This year I went to Wisconsin for Christmas.
Braving the cold weather and experiencing fresh snow for the first time.
But not enough to cover the ground.
Apparently I was being watched.

Haha very nice Jorge. You should travel around a bit now that Lost is pretty much done.

LOL!

That's hilarious! It's always amazing how big kids act like little kids when there is snow. My hubby tends to go sledding with our wee ones and behave like one of them, too. You're not alone! :)

Hope you enjoyed WI - my home state! And the snow too - gotta love 4 seasons... :)

What the heck were you doing here? It rained most of the time. Not too cold either for Christmas!

I taught English to children in a city near Guangzhou, China where they had never seen snow. The teachers were not to teach the children anything in English that would be a new concept to them in their native language. This video is what I have imagined would happen if my students were put in snow for the first time.

Jorge, I am in Buffalo NY and we kinda see a little snow. I uploaded a pic on Google Maps a few years ago of our street after a very surprising snowstorm in October of 2006
The pic is at:
42°52'20.68"N
78°42'43.85"W

Thought you would want to see what a nice small snowfall here looked like :)

Thanks to both of you for your blog!

ChiTown Girl said...

This is one of the cutest things I've ever seen! You are more than welcome to come stay here in ChiTown ANYTIME you want to play in the REAL snow!! :)

The Video, great Jorge, just great! :)

It seems you dont know what to make of it.

You're talking about snow very... "neutral". So at the end it leads to one question: did you like it?

btw: had 12 inches snow last days in Germany...yeeehaaa love snow ;)

LOL. That is funny. :)

I spent Christmas in WI too (my home state). Hope your stay was nice and that you stayed warm!!

What a cute little skiff of snow :) Visit Canada in the winter (it's six months of the year sometimes) to see lots and lots and lots of snow. And different kinds of snow: wet mushy snow, dry snow that feels like sand on your face, fluffy snow, wind-blown hard-packed snow, and when the weather is cold enough (below -30C) the air seems to be made of ice crystals. Brrr.

lovely that you could visit the midwest. it's fabulous isn't it? what a storm it was.

Buzz: You ever hear of the South Bend Shovel Slayer?" asks Buzz.
Cousin: No.
Buzz: That's him. Back in'58 he murdered his whole family and half the people on the block with the snow shovel. Been hiding out in this neighborhood ever since. Cousin: Well, if he's the Shovel slayer, how come the cops don't arrest him?
Buzz: Not enough evidence to convict. They never found the bodies, but everyone around here knows he did it. And it will just be a matter of time before he does it again.
Cousin: What's he doing now?
Buzz: He walks up and down the street every night salting the sidewalks.
Cousin: Maybe he's trying to be nice.
Buzz: No way. See that garbage can filled with salt. that's where he keeps his victims. The salt turns the bodies into mummies.

Awesome weather! I wish we had that much snow in Ontario! Sad to say I have to head back to Tallahasse, and I suppose you and Beth are heading back to the big island. So sad, I miss the snow already.

Looks similar to where I am. Except a few more feet. I'm from the South so I had to go out and play in it. I dug a door into a snowbank. Soon I will have a snow castle.

That is just almost as cute as the rat vids. I can almost see the smoke coming out of your ears with thinking thinking thinking.

You know you have it bad when you notice things like the video runs for 1:08 :D

Hi I'm John and I'm a Lost-a-holic
:D

It's cold here with plenty of frost and some freezing fog, but it's a damp cold, not the dry kind so it gets into your bones. Not so nice.
I'd love to have some nice snow, haven't had a good fall of snow in years. It's magical. My favourite part is watching it fall especially at night from under the street lights, that's cool.

Hope you enjoyed your White Christmas

Aww....your timing was off this year (or maybe the snow's timing was off this year). Like jgrutza said it was mostly rain this Christmas - but glad you liked it anyway!

Glad you enjoyed your moment of snow, but lemme tell you--it gets old quick. I'll swap houses with you anytime in the next three months if you want to play in more snow.

The few flakes of snow we receive where I live don't look anything like the very pretty snowflake on your coat. They look like bits of cotton batting which has been pulled from a pillow by a little kid--thus I call it spitting cotton instead of snowing when it does actually happen. Must not get to the extreme cold the ice needs to form those very pretty snowflakes. Thank you for sharing that very special picture with us. Happy New Year!

I think that it will be very Awesome if in Jungle where you play in Lost, would be snow! :))) hihihi... :) Happy New Year!

I'm surprised with all your creative juices you didn't put together a snowman. All that snow and nothing to do... ah well.

Looks like you're enjoying the snow at least a little! Hey, if it snows enough, you could make a snow fort or a tunnel! I remember doing that a lot as a kid (I had snow pants on though). Good times.

I love snow and we haven't had any for...7 years now, in my part of the world (damn climate change)!

It used to snow though, I guess the memories have to count for something :)

Happy New 2010 Jorge, greetings from Greece lol

Did you make a snowman in that snow? I can see you lining up a bunch of snowmen and starting a war with the snowmen across the street.

We just moved to North Chicago from Hawaii (my son was actually on a couple episodes of LOST-not in scenes with you though) and it is my youngest one's first time in the snow...aside from the Big Island and that snow if just not the same. Looks like you had FUN!

Carole Hanbury said...

I was hoping you'd flop down and make a snow angel!

Chrissy Conklin said...

I agree with ChiTown Girl. Come stay in Chicago!

... I hope the snow clumped while you had the chance to see it. Snow's no fun to play with unless it clumps.

I thought you might appreciate this snow story. My father spent his first 7 years in the Atacama desert. It never rained, of course, it was the desert. One day, it SNOWED. My aunt was not allowed outside because she had the flu, but my father and his brother went out and played in the 1/4" of snow, among the blooming flowers. The desert flowers bloomed every time there was a tiny bit of precip. Anyway, years later, my parents are watching a documentary on Chile and this particular event is mentioned, and my mother realizes that this was the time my father lived in the desert and asks, "Do you remember that?" and he laughs and says, "No! That never happened!" Anyway, his sister had to be called to verify that it did indeed happen.

Dude. Where are you? Still playing in the snow? I miss your blog. Your humor. Your screaming Beth. Your chewing NuNu. What's up???

Whereabouts were you guys? I grew up in Tomah, which is near Lacrosse (southwest part of the state). Even though I moved to NorCal when I was 12, I'll never, ever forget the winters in Wisconsin. You really should visit there in the fall, though - the colors are absolutely gorgeous. And summer is fun there, too. You can catch fireflies in jars! But you'll have to deal with the humidity from hell. Fortunately, you'll get awesome thunder and lightening storms to help cool things off!
