I was so surprised to see the Wienermobile in Kaneohe the other day. Seeing the Wienermobile is like seeing Haley's comet, years may go by before you get a chance to see it again. :)
But then I was saddened to hear that it might have been around because Oscar Mayer had just passed away. :(
We googled it at lunch and this popped up:
Oscar G. Mayer, the meat processing exec whose wiener delighted generations of Americans, has died at the age of 95.
LMAO
Truth be told I was surprised that an actual person named Oscar Mayer would still be alive. I mean how old is that company? One thing I can say though, I'm pretty sure those jingles will live forever.
Ha! That made my night. Hysterical! Sad too... but mostly hysterical.
ReplyDeleteDude, Oscar Meyer died??!?!? That sucks.
ReplyDeleteI saw the news about Mr. Mayer as well. I did not, however, ever see that quote before. Glad his weiner delighted so many people. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty cool though that the weinermobile was in HI! I see it every year when I put my weinermobile christmas ornament on my tree. It even plays the tune! :)
How do you get a wienermobile to Hawaii? By ship? How long does that take? How much does it cost? So many questions.
ReplyDeleteOh, I wish I was an Oscar Mayer weiner...yeah, that's sad. But still really cool you saw the weiniemobile! I've never seen one but I do have an itty bitty toy of one. I think it's a whistle, too...
ReplyDeleteIndeed, it is a rare, perhaps once-in-a-lifetime treat to see the Weinermobile live and in person. I have been lucky enough to see it twice. :)
ReplyDeleteEven more awesome...check out what I bought off craigslist last weekend:
http://daddytypes.com/2009/06/17/so_you_wish_you_had_an_oscar_mayer_wienermobile_pedal_car.php
They normally go for $300-400 on ebay, but we got ours for $150. I guess the guy didn't know what he was sitting on (or not sitting on, for that matter - apparently they only hold up to 70 lbs. :(). Our future children WILL love it, haha.
Rats, the link didn't work...trying again:

The wienermobile (or one of them) was in my hometown a few weeks back, parked in front of a local hotel. It was headed to an event at the nearby Army post, Ft. Campbell. It was cool seeing it :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence to get this news today, considering what I just saw at the 711.
ReplyDeleteSomeone apparently abandoned a dog (bun and condiment-less) near the fountain drinks. The cashier felt the need to rescue it and dump it back into the warmer with the other rotating meat products. !!!
R.I.P. Mr. Mayer.
"whose wiener delighted generations of Americans"
ReplyDeletelol...how many people can have that in their obit?
well, maybe Ron Jeremy.
Hey at least you can now say you have seen the weinermobile of oscar mayer.
ReplyDeleteSeeing the wienermobile up close is one of those life-changing moments...and it only gets better with each additional sighting. I heard about Oscar's passing...really too bad. But the smiles he brought to kids faces, mine included, definitely earns him a spot in the ever-after. RIP.
ReplyDeleteheeee!

This is the third Oscar Mayer. His grandfather, who started the company, died in 1955.
ReplyDeleteMy condolences to Oscar's 23-year-old wife.
I'm with Ron. And why does Hawaii get the Weiner honors? Wouldn't it have been better placed in Wisconsin? Just way way too many questions.
ReplyDeletemy balogna has a first name...
ReplyDeleterip Oscar Meyer
he did have delightful weiners
I have yet to see the weinermobile. maybe someday.
I've only seen the Weinermobile once in my life, it passed me going the opposite direction on I-95 in North Carolina.
ReplyDeleteIt was just like the only time in my life when I when I was actually passing a Krispy Kreme when the light came on, I damn near had a wreck trying to whip my car around in the middle of the road.
if i had a guy whos weiner would make me that happy i wouldn't have been married 3 times..oh well, maybe i would have too..
ReplyDelete"wiener delighted generations of Americans"
ReplyDeleteLMAO!
<3 you for that. Best laugh of the week.
Not everyone likes to see the Weinermobile.
ReplyDeleteI saw it near the Aloha Stadium and then over at Sand Island (we were getting our van) within a week of each other recently. I laughed about it 'cos I always wanted to just see it . . . and then I move to Oahu and see it twice.
ReplyDeleteWhy do so many Americans fail at spelling Wiener (Würstchen)?
ReplyDeleteIt's related to Vienna, not to a weeping person =D
The last time I saw the Wiener mobile was on the campus back when I was in college. (I'm 36 now, so I guess that would have been over a decade now...Time sure flies.)
ReplyDeleteI had no clue that there were three Oscar Mayers. I'm sorry I had to find out this way. My condolences go out to the family too.
The song...that was one of the first songs my mother taught me/sang to me.
Sad.....funny too!
ReplyDeleteOMG I totally agree. It is like seeing Hailey's comet.
ReplyDeleteThat's sooo sad about Mr. Meyer.
:(
I guess I'm more fortunate than most. I live near Dearborn, Michigan, where you can see the wiener-mobile inside the Henry Ford Museum anytime. Some 15 years ago, my Dad and I took my then-five-year-old nephew to the museum. He was thrilled to have his picture taken next to it -- something he remembers to this day! RIP, Oscar Mayer! (And thanks for all the jingles!)
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_Mayer the guy who just died was the son of the founder. the founder died in 1955.
ReplyDeleteOi Jorge! Faz tempo que não entrava em seu Blog, hoje estou aqui... Uma marca muito tradicional aà no eua... Amo Hot Dog! Olha que achei:
ReplyDeleteOh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener
That is what I truly want to be
'Cause if I were an Oscar Mayer wiener
Everyone would be in love with me...
Beijossssssssss :@)
that is too funny (not that he died)
ReplyDeleteAlthough a 95 year old weiner is a very old weiner. Its like that one that has been sitting on the grill 3 hours after the bbq ended. ewwww
My bologna has a first name, it's O-s-c-a-r~
ReplyDeleteawww sad.
ReplyDeleteYour surprise at seeing the Weinermobile is quite cute. Here in Wisconsin, it's just another car! This is, after all, the land of the racing sausages... (Come to a Milwaukee Brewers game. You'll see what I mean.)
ReplyDeleteOn the up side, we also have Harley Davidson. :)
OK, that epitaph is just too funny! It's said he died, but he still made us smile.
ReplyDeleteOMG! I saw that weiner mobile about a month ago here on the beltway around D.C. I wonder how many are out there?
ReplyDeleteSorry, typo, make that "sad he died" not "said" - need more coffee.
ReplyDeleteI never saw a Wienermobile or Harley's Comet...
ReplyDeleteAs an American I can say I've never been delighted by Oscar G. Mayer's wiener!!
ReplyDeleteI will say RIP To Mr. Mayer though.
You wanna sit in the driver's seat? I'm pretty sure I could hook that up. My buddy is a director of something or other at Foodland and he said he could probably get me in there, but I wouldn't be allowed to drive it.
ReplyDeleteHaha!! You'd think they would have caught that before publishing it...oh well, it's the stuff LMAOs are made of.
ReplyDeleteAloha! just wanted to let you know I saw the PSA you and Wally Amos did for our local libraries. When I worked for a community center in Kalihi, I got to hear Mr. Amos read books to our keiki on a regular basis. What a genuinely sweet man he is. I'm sure you both had a great time.
ReplyDeleteLove your work on Lost and can't wait to see next season!

I just got to see one for the first time a few months ago. I still have my wiener whistle sitting on my desk at work. :o)
ReplyDeleteAt least his weiner will live on long after death to the delight of many.
ReplyDeleteHow many men can claim that?
Even being a vegetarian, I still feel for the loss of Oscar Myer. I never knew he was a person before either... but that song was a staple of my childhood... like Michael Jackson!
ReplyDeleteI guess Michael Jackson overshadowed the wiener man's death. The way the obit was worded is hysterical!
ReplyDeleteas a matter of fact, I learned to spell BOLOGNA because of the commercial!!!!
ReplyDeleteJorge,
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a...... oh wait a second that's subliminal advertising! Nice!
That weiner can cause problems.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/17/oscar-mayer-wienermobile-penetrates-unsuspecting-home/
I never knew the man, but I am sorry, since his weiner was so delightful! I never knew he was real either. We saw the weinermobile last year at the grocery store and the escorts for it had weinermobile whistles for all the kids. No mom wants her kids to have MORE whistles!
ReplyDeleteYou know what? If you fly through Detroit and are in the Northwest terminal, there is a Ford store. They promote the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI and sell car related knick knacks..they sell matchbox car size weiner mobiles. It is too cool.
ReplyDeleteThis just In: Wienermobile craashes into house
ReplyDeletehttp://www.fox6now.com/news/witi-090717-weinermobile-crashes-into-house,0,6217102.story
. . .Unless you live in Madison, Wisconsin. We see weiner mobiles quite often, since Oscar Mayer is located here. I still think it's cool when I see one. I yell and point! They always give out those little weiner-whistles, too.
ReplyDeleteAw, RIP Mr. Meyer sir! :-(
ReplyDeleteI used to have an Oscar Meyer Wiener Whistle. If I still had it I'd tweet it in his honor.
Great now I have the jingle in my head..."My bologna has a special name is O S C A R...my bolongna has a second name it's M A Y E R"
ReplyDeleteI loved this weiner too.
ReplyDeleteI got to see and check out the inside of the Weinermobile once. It was magical. Even got a whistle!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mr. Mayer <3

When I was a kid I saw the weinermobile all the time. I lived in a town that had a big Oscar Mayer plant. You could tell when they were rendering fat because it smelled REALLY bad. On smoking days tho it smelled pretty good.

ReplyDeleteJorge! Did you see that the Wienermobile crashed into a house yesterday? Hi-larious! :)
ReplyDeleteHere's the story about the crash:

I really liked your blog! Please come visit my site Fort Wayne Business Directory when you got time.
ReplyDeleteHaven't checked in for awhile...what a great post to return to! I'm sorry for his death, but the word Weiner will forever make me laugh like a 12 year old every time I see or hear it.
ReplyDeleteDid you see the Wienermobile crashed into a house in Wisc. this morning (I don't want to kill the joy of people thinking there's only one). And, as with the dog thing... reminds me of a little book from Urban Outfitters "Labs with Abs." Really creepy, but I had to buy it for my best friend. He agreed that it was creepy.
ReplyDeleteUh-Oh! The Weinermobile had an accident. See:

ReplyDeleteDid you see the one that crashed into a house? http://www.stuff.co.nz/oddstuff/2606242/Wienermobile-crashes-into-home
ReplyDeleteI once met the man who was the first driver of the Wienermobile. He began working for Oscar Mayer during the Great Depression. He was a very small (thin and short, under 5 feet) person, which is one reason they hired him. The design of the first wienermobile made it difficult for a taller person to drive.
ReplyDeleteI came home from vacation tonight and was really bumming. I checked out your blog for some much needed humor and saw the comments about Oscar Meyer. Needless to say that soon afterwards, I was howling with laughter. (no offense to the Meyer family) I knew I could count on you.
ReplyDeleteAwesome..spotted it today on Sand Island LOLz
ReplyDeleteOMG that's hilarious!!! Too bad he died, but that little blurb is just too funny!!!

ReplyDeleteI thought you might enjoy this... the Weinermobile crashed into someone's house
Sadly, reported on Friday:
ReplyDeleteSee photo: http://www.miamiherald.com/news/weird-news/story/1146685.html
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. -- One southern Wisconsin homeowner is probably not in love with the Oscar Mayer wiener. The famed hot dog's Wienermobile crashed Friday into the deck and garage of a home in Mount Pleasant, about 35 miles south of Milwaukee.
Police said the driver was trying to turn the Wienermobile around in the driveway and thought she was moving in reverse. But she instead went forward and hit the home. It sat in the driveway as if it were stuck in the garage Friday afternoon.
No one was home and no one was injured. No citations were immediately issued.
Both the home and vehicle suffered moderate damage, which Oscar Mayer spokeswoman Sydney Lindner says insurance will cover.
I feel SICK that my tears from my intense laughter are streaming down my cheeks!
ReplyDeleteChris
OMG this is hysterical!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoyed seeing the weinermoblie in Hawaii, this article says thay might not get to come back.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.kitv.com/cnn-news/20161762/detail.html
I the weinermobile get to come and visit you guy in hawaii again!
Come to Madison, you can see where it sleeps!
ReplyDeleteI live in Madison too and drive by the Oscar Meyer plant every morning. Lots of weiner mobiles over here. And regarding Oscar Meyer that just passed away - he was actually the son of the original Oscar Meyer, I believe.
