It was the inspiration for the Disneyland castle.
(You're required to say that whenever you mention this castle. )
To get there you take a horse drawn carriage.
The carriage drivers are these cute old men with their Bavarian hats.
Except ours.
Here I am looking at the people on the distant bridge through this telescope.
I think that guy flipped me off.
I figured maybe we'd get a more traditional looking driver on the way back down.
No, same woman.
Nothing against her, I just wanted one of the old dudes once. Or something a little more traditional and a little less "casual Friday."

Thanks for the tour of Bavaria, Jorge. I think I can officially call myself a desktop tourist (as opposed to an armchair tourist)!
: ) P
ps - Happy Mother's Day to Beth. I hope Nunu did something nice for her!
Fantastic pictures! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Happy Mother's Day to your Mom (& Beth's Mom)
We are getting the most amazing breezy, sunshiney kind of day (made more lovely by the storms that rolled through Thursday & Friday).
Hope the weather is beautiful where you are today!
:o)
Fantastic photos of Bavaria, Jorge! Thanks for sharing bits of your travels with us! Did you mean to post a pic of your lady driver? You posted two of same pic, so I figured you mis-clicked when posting, mebbe? Hehe
Happy Mother's Day to Beth and your mom!
HAHAHAHAHHAHAH!!!! I love the casual friday comment!
It all looks so fantastic!!! Lately i've had to settle for 'litle Bavaria' in Michigan! haha!!

And Happy Mother's Day to your mom!!!
Don't mention Fawlty Towers....
Hola Jorge, sorry to say that the castle that was the inspiration for Walt Disney is in Segovia (Spain). Check out this picture: http://nature.wallpaperme.com/2990-2/Alcazar+Tower_+Segovia_+Spain.jpg. Does it remember you of a fairytale castle?
Isn't Neuschwanstein beautiful? I was there a few years ago in the early fall and Fussen was lovely.
Beautiful photos! I remember visiting there as a kid, this really brings back some lovely memories. I don't recall taking a carriage, though, I think we went on a tour bus (bleh).
Happy Mother's Day to your mom!
Jorge,
Thats age discrimination! You should have demanded an older frumpier Barvarian driver!
I'm glad that Munich impressed you so much. I love it too. And the castle... lovely.
Have you been in the Maria's Brücke/Bridge? Did you walk through the bridge??
I'd love to know...
That is awesome! Where else are you planning to go?
nope sorry, mary....

second paragraph down.
Bahahahahaaa!! You always crack me up, make me smile, smile, smile :o) I totally agree with you, a dressed-down carriage driver takes away a lil' somethin' from the experience, it just does. Looking forward to the season finale, dum dum dummm!
I just got a letter from a pen-pal in Germany telling me about taking a friend of hers to Neuschwanstein, and now I see it again on your blog. I'll have to try to get there if I'm ever in Germany again.
This is also the castle from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
You always get the hat at Disneyland.
I remembered visiting there when I was in 6th grade. We were stationed at Rammstein Air Force Base.
We got an old man to drive us up...I creepy old man. The sort that tells you vampire stories.
Hope you guys went to the Hunting Lodge. So much gold, you are blind when you leave.
You got to ride in a carriage??! When we were there in the 90's, my dad made us hike up half way and then ride the bus thing the rest of the way...I thought I was going to die--it was so hot!! A carriage ride sounds way more fun. Love the views from up there.
Oh my goodness. When I went there, we walked (yes, WALKED) all the way up to the castle. Wished the whole time we sprang for the carriage!
Very cool place to visit!
BTW, completely off the subject, but we went and saw "Star Trek" this morning at the IMAX. You were right. JJ Abrams knocked it out of the park. We were watching this documentary before we left about them selling off all the original "Star Trek" stuff and I was laughing saying they'd never recoup their investment. So yeah, now this is me, eating my words....he has a FRANCHISE on his hands. Goshwow.
your pictures are beautiful, and I envy that you've traveled so well! Congrats to all of your accomplishments. Hugs to you and your lovely sidekick- much more adventures for you both, I'm sure!
What a pity that I stumbled upon your blog so late. As an old Bavarian from north of Munich (Freising - that's directly besides the Munich Airport) I could have given you some tips for sightseeing and culture around Munich. Especially regarding the food, traditional bavarian locations (Neuschwanstein is not typical and many of the tourist attractions aren't either) and of course our famous beergardens... ;o)
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the stay?
Neuschwanstein was probably my favorite place we visited when I was in Germany. Even if my teacher was positively evil and made us hike all the way up the freaking mountain. I did get some pretty pictures on the way up, but there's nothing like feeling like you are going to die to make you appreciate the view. Did you guys go up to the bridge? Beautiful view, but absolutely brutal climb to get up there.
i have some great memories from there as well. although...12 years ago, we didnt ride up the hill, we had to WALK...
thanks for sharing :)
First time reading your blog. In a strange way its interesting to read and follow. You are an actor, born in Omaha, and you actually do pretty much normal people stuff.
** Todd **
Well... maybe some actors/ artists are normal people, right?
Except Michael Jackson! lol
He's a non-human "thing"! O_o
Hahaha! I like your comments about the woman driver. Awesome pictures! Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
i LOVE your blog :-)
I'm really impressed by your knowledge of the German language ;-)
I always thought that it was the Alcázar de Segovia, in Spain, the castle that inspired Disney!! I am beginning to think that there may be more than one castle in Europe competing for that title! :D
Es la primera vez que visito tu blog y lo seguiré haciendo. Saludos desde México, Jorge.
When I was there a decade ago, there was no carriage for us, a family of six. We had to walk up the whole dang thing!!!
Glad you enjoyed your visit though, I miss Germany so much!
Munich is kind of a hidden gem in Europe I think. I loved it there and you got some truly great shots to post. Thanks!
When i went here we didn't get to ride in the carriages, but some of the others in our group did and before they got on the carriage our professor told them if he asks you to sit in the front with him... say no. apparently they did that and then when the horse lets one you're right in the stink zone. I think one of the girls found out first hand. =)
This is my favorite place on Earth!! I have been there twice and can't wait to go back. I had to walk up the mountain to get to the castle though. You got the better ride. Thanks for sharing Jorge!
