This is the Biggest Snail I had ever seen!
At least that's what I thought until I found the next one. I didn't take a picture of that one because I was afraid a pattern might form and the snails would keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger.

Teehee. The snail is camera-shy.
that looks like a small Giant African Snail
Hey! Just read on Jimmy Fallon you are in NY (maybe??) you plan to do any stand up there?
I also live in an island (caribbeanm though...) if you want, check my blog (though it`s also in portuguese.... D`Oh)
Anyway...
You rock man!
Feeding it to Nunu wouldn't be a good way to forget about it. But if she was named Pierre, I'm sure she would enjoy snails.
you should keep him and name him Sir Speedy
Add a little bit of garlic, olive oil, and heat, and you have yourself a tasty appetizer!!! LOL
I hate snails~~~glad he was in the shell.
Did you let Nunu see it? lol
Lol! Stick him on tha barbee (BBQ)
X:-o!
Now, probably it is already ate you!
When we visited the Dole Pineapple Plantation...those were all over their maze. My kids thought they were sooo cool.
whoa, how did you make your font bigger?! i need to go learn that. see ya!
KILL IT DUDE...before they take over your house and start eating your shoes...(it could happen!)
Escargo (sp) the snail must be feed cornmeal for a month before you dine. You dine on him or he and his will dine on your vines.
I LOVE snails. I sometimes try and round them up before the backyard gets mowed, and then put them back afterwards.
Jorge,
Can you say Escargot?
LMAO.
You might have developed a pattern. That snail is quite big enough.
Don't publish this stuff, Jorge. If you continue to write about snails in your garden then you'll have Nicolas Sarkozy running about your property before you know it.
Please wash your produce thoroughly if you have snails. The big island has had a breakout of rat lungworm disease and extremely dangerous disease caused by parasites from snails on locally grown produce. One of the risks of organic produce...

You will not have the problem of the lipstick here.
Lol you've never seen a "Bourgogne snail" lol you know the one the french eat ^^ (like me lol, well that's not what I prefer I must admit ^^)
take care, Eva, France.
I think I have all his Scottish relatives in my garden - we have hundreds.
Night of the big snails!!!
do they taste like chicken?
Well... it's really big.
And I if were you, I'd be afraid to find bigger snails too...
By the way, that shell is different from common snails' shells, isn't it?
Over in Ewa, we're overrun with snails, though it never seems to rain here. I can't figure out how they make it through the daytime without getting all shriveled. Yours is about medium-sized compared to the ones here... lucky you! ;)
B L A A A A A A R G H T !!! =p
Wow...now I wanna know how much bigger the next snail was! Did you roast them up with some butter? Haha...just kidding!
It seems so delicious....
My first thought upon seeing this picture was "Holy crap, is he putting that snail in a slot machine?!"
Which is completely irrelevant.
Anyway. Hello, how are you?
That's a beast!
Jorge, do you know that they show new teaser of Lost 6 season yesterday? http://www.popcorner.pl/popcorner/1,81588,6801099,Mamy_najnowszy_teaser_szostej_serii_Lost_.html
Nice one :)
You know if France they would charge you a fortune for those and call them a delicacy! ;)
Rats... Beena beat me to it!
A little garlic and some butter then it's lunch!
Ha, just joking.
Have you seen this video? They plan on blaming you, Jorge, for the ending of LOST:

I just found out about your blog recently, and I love reading it!!! I have been a fan of yours for a long time, and it is great to read about life from your down to earth perspective! Cheers Jorge!
Mmmm. suddenly I feel hungry...
ughh, snails are so gross. why would anybody blog about them? your dogs are so cute, I really do mean that.
kisses
Gary?
We have a lot of those snails in our yard too. They don't seem to do any damage, but the slugs are a different story.
Thats like the damn cockroaches I find... I see one and think this is the biggest one I have ever seent then two minutes later there's another one. Never have seen bugs as big as they are in Hawaii!
That's not a snail :

THAT'S a snail!
Beautiful! Though I hope he's not eating all of your lovely vegetation...
That IS a Giant African Land Snail as Parker said and we have lots here on Maui too.
ICK. Word of warning... was hands and all veggies really well.
Although they are quite beautiful they are nasty disease ridden monsters...

The other thing about African Snails is that when they die in your garden (which they will), dogs LOVE to roll in them. And if your dog rolls in a dead African Snail, you will know it, because it is the one scent that is a universal gag-maker. I've never seen anyone sniff a dog who has rolled in dead African Snail not immediately retch (not that you're sniffing for fun, mind you, but usually it's because you see a big grey smear on the dog's neck). I grew up in Kailua and it happened too many times!
