This is the Biggest Snail I had ever seen!

At least that's what I thought until I found the next one. I didn't take a picture of that one because I was afraid a pattern might form and the snails would keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger.

Feeding it to Nunu wouldn't be a good way to forget about it. But if she was named Pierre, I'm sure she would enjoy snails.

Taiyyaba said...

you should keep him and name him Sir Speedy

Add a little bit of garlic, olive oil, and heat, and you have yourself a tasty appetizer!!! LOL

Escargo (sp) the snail must be feed cornmeal for a month before you dine. You dine on him or he and his will dine on your vines.

I LOVE snails. I sometimes try and round them up before the backyard gets mowed, and then put them back afterwards.

Jorge,

Can you say Escargot?

LMAO.

You might have developed a pattern. That snail is quite big enough.

Don't publish this stuff, Jorge. If you continue to write about snails in your garden then you'll have Nicolas Sarkozy running about your property before you know it.

Please wash your produce thoroughly if you have snails. The big island has had a breakout of rat lungworm disease and extremely dangerous disease caused by parasites from snails on locally grown produce. One of the risks of organic produce...

Night of the big snails!!!

yellowdoggranny said...

do they taste like chicken?

Espaciolandesa said...

Well... it's really big.

And I if were you, I'd be afraid to find bigger snails too...

By the way, that shell is different from common snails' shells, isn't it?

Over in Ewa, we're overrun with snails, though it never seems to rain here. I can't figure out how they make it through the daytime without getting all shriveled. Yours is about medium-sized compared to the ones here... lucky you! ;)

My first thought upon seeing this picture was "Holy crap, is he putting that snail in a slot machine?!"

Which is completely irrelevant.

Anyway. Hello, how are you?

We have a lot of those snails in our yard too. They don't seem to do any damage, but the slugs are a different story.

Beautiful! Though I hope he's not eating all of your lovely vegetation...

Conn said...

That IS a Giant African Land Snail as Parker said and we have lots here on Maui too.
ICK. Word of warning... was hands and all veggies really well.
Although they are quite beautiful they are nasty disease ridden monsters...

The other thing about African Snails is that when they die in your garden (which they will), dogs LOVE to roll in them. And if your dog rolls in a dead African Snail, you will know it, because it is the one scent that is a universal gag-maker. I've never seen anyone sniff a dog who has rolled in dead African Snail not immediately retch (not that you're sniffing for fun, mind you, but usually it's because you see a big grey smear on the dog's neck). I grew up in Kailua and it happened too many times!
