Patience Cucumber
I guess it turns out the longer I wait to pick the cucumbers I got growing in the garden, the bigger they get.

Once - within the EU - you were not allowed to sell curved cucumbers.... for some reason... but I think that has changed now.
My advice: pickle them.

I can't wait til we can start our garden. Here in Wisconsin we still have some snow on the ground.

LOL - I'm taking it that you didn't grow them in the upside-down tomato thingy, huh? Seriously, I'm jealous - your tomatoes and cucumbers look fantastic. I really need to go to the nursery....and get some herbs and peppers, too...
DanishGirl - that law has changed now, they can be as curvy as you like now. I never really understood that whole thing anyway - nobody paid any attention to it anyway.
There is nothing better than a freshly picked vegetable...yum...I'm jealous!

I'm just jealous that the weather is warm enough for a gardern this time of year! It's still pretty chilly here in NH.
mmm, fresh cucumber and cheese sandwiches, greek salads, tomato and cucumber salads, toasted open faced salmon sammy with tomato, cucumber, mozerella, lemon, and cracked pepper--ooh and maybe a marinated artichoke.
My husband works nights, so after I put the four boys in bed on Wednesday nights, I warm up the DVR, put my feet up with some warm herbal tea (and maybe a pastry) and slip into my happy place. Sorry, had to gush, Lost is just SO awesome this season. It's definately one of my favorite seasons yet.
When I lived on the island, I didn't have any luck with my garden-- my tomato plant hatched one tiny little cherry tomato... and it was supposed to be a beefsteak.
Yea lucky you on your garden. Here in North Texas I have had plants inside for weeks, and just yesterday planted them outside.
Congrats on your efforts in natural food.
IMO, those are the best cukes, the onces with the thin skin. But, a law against selling crooked or curvey veggies? That's right up there with "No whistling after dark." It's a weird world.

What kind of cucumbers did you plant? They almost look like the pickliing type!
I love growing cukes. I am so jealous that you can have them now- I have to wait until mid-late summer! (I just planted my seeds) Since you're a cuke guy- try slicing them thickly, put them into a big glass or waterbottle and add water. Your water will taste just like cucumbers and then you can snack on them when you're done!

How did the great tomato experiment go? Are you still growing both in pots and with the hanging bags?
Don't you peel them first before you eat them? I don't care for the skins unless they're sliced real thin!
ooh, I was just watching Howdini.com for tips on growing an organic garden! Good to know this tip. Do you have deer in Hawaii??? That's my biggest obstacle!

Fresh cucumbers straight out of the garden in March...I'm so jealous! I'm looking forward to warmer weather here in New England so I can get started on my garden (which always includes cucumbers) this year. No veggie tastes better than when it's picked right off the vine/plant. Enjoy!
I've never eaten a cucumber with the skin on. Are you really supposed to do that?
BTW, very jealous of your green thumb. I can hear the veggies I try to grow laughing at me at night.
I love cucumbers with the skin on, and it's nice to grow them, so they don't have an oily or waxy residue on them, as the ones in the grocery do. I didn't know that people thought the skin was inedible.
