But I thought I would pause a minute and show off the garden I set up at the new place.
I decided to mingle my plants this time. So I built a giant five foot by eight foot box. And filled it with soil. (It took a lot!) I took the plants I had in pots and planted them in the box as well as added a few others that I picked up at different nurseries. (Oh man this blog is even boring me.)
So far so good. Someone told me marigolds naturally repel bugs so I've added a bunch of them as well as other flowers to keep the bees coming around.

Awww no, it's not boring. You are sharing something you like to do. I give major praise to anyone who likes to set up gardens. I wish I had the space to set one up myself. That's what sucks about living in an apartment complex.
Looking good Jorge! I hope everything grows and the bugs stay away. (or any other little creature that might go at it)
Have a great day!
It's interesting that you're able to NOW plant a garden. Here in Ohio it's almost over. But I did have a bumper crop of tomatoes this year, I can't even give them away fast enough.
Now I'm being boring.
It's contagious!
Nicely done! You really do have a green thumb. And the marigolds always worked really well for me. I put them in and surrounded the garden with them. Do you have any bees? We've had none this year. Sad that the worlds best regenerator of crops is disappearing. It's taking the nature out of natural and organic
:(
I love nesting in a new place, and that is what you guys are doing. ;-)
Even Nunu, bless her, has found her "spot". I remember when you were so worried about her and her leg at one time~~and look at her!
So your garden there is another way you are nesting and settling in. If love makes it grow, it'll be awesome!!
Beso~

It's not boring! That's what blogging is all about: writing about the things you like. Gardening is fun anyways. Good luck with that.
I might be flying my geek flag here a little bit, but I'm thrilled about your garden. Brilliantly planned, too. Keep us posted on how the marigolds and other flowers work out amongst the veggies, please? :)
Marigolds are supposed to ward off gophers, too. Supposed to, anyway. We didn't have any luck but you should be ok because the garden is raised.
So if you put the marigolds to keep bugs away, won't it keep the bees away too? I need to know!
I have built 3 boxes like yours; two are 8 x 4 and one is 8 x 12. Yeah, they take way more dirt than you ever think they could! Like a mountain of dirt.
But if the marigolds work, I am so going to use them. I need ayuda in that area down here in Miami. Long growing season but no cold to kill the bugs.
Keep us posted!
On your next vacation you are more than welcome to come to Denmark and do something about my weeds.... thats all that grows in my garden, 'cause the damn snails keep eating everything else !! (why dont they eat weeds ?)Anyways, I dont find your gardening blogs boring - nice to see that you enjoy doing normal everyday stuff...
Certainly not boring. I have been wanting to plant things in my back yard for 6 months now, and just never figured out exactly how to do a good raised bed. I wasn't expecting to find such information here, of all places, but I'm glad you posted the pics! It looks awesome. Keep us posted as to the effectiveness of the marigolds.
This is adorable.
I know Marigolds repel deer. They do kinda smell funny.
Jorge,
I see you moving in on Paul Newman's racket. We will finally see the Jorge Garcia Salad Dressing and Salad Mix. However, you may want to watch out as I think Disney may have already have it in the works!
Dude, nice posts about Ireland. Keep them coming.
Watch out for the feral cats and of course the mongoose in your garden box!
Hey the garden looks great. I don't think you are boring at all. We wouldn't be coming here to read it if you were.
it looks wonderful
Your garden looks great! You really have a green thumb. Definitely not boring! I'm in a row house in the city so gardens are a rarity here. Keep up the good work.
your garden looks pretty rad, it's all feng shui'd out, you should meditate by it, or maybe just say ohmmmmm when your near it. can't wait to see your vancouver pics and hear what you thought of it.
It's looking good...I mix my flowers, herbs and fruit too. I love a good messy garden. But your tomatoes are looking better than mine did. Sigh.
You will have to let us know if the marigolds work. I am jealous that you are planting now though! I have to wait until next year to build my square foot garden. I was supposed to do it this year, but I kept putting it off and now it is too late.
The garden looks great! I need to do this in our backyard. Look forward to its progress!
The gardens are looking great! Good luck with the marigolds!
