Annascaul's (this is the Gaelic spelling by the way) favorite son is Tom Crean. He was an Antarctic explorer and hero. And he loved puppies because the picture of him and the puppies is everywhere in the pub he used to run.
And it's also the subject of the statue that was erected in his honor.

I bet he raised dogs to pull his sled. (That's my year in Alaska talking!)
Tom Crean, captured in bronze, with the main ingredient of his favourite dish when exploring...
That guy is kind of my role model :) He had a great and exciting life, and ended up running a pub in Ireland...how awesome is that!
Actually I could get behind that idea... although I'm not so sure about running a pub, you would have to be nice to people... like all the time. I can be a right grumpy bugger when I havent had my coffee :)
Anyhow Jorge if your pictorials are anything to go by, I think you should definitely consider doing a documentary or two for BBC... :)
That's a cool idea. I would definitely watch a travel documentary with Jorge. You always have an interesting and humorous take on your surroundings.
You may have to change the blog name to "Dispatches from the Emerald Isle" - lol.
btw - abhainn an scail (seen on the sign above the post office) literally means "the river of reflection" . Like many place names in Ireland - Anascaul is a corruption of the Irish or Gaelic name.
Jorge,
Puppies? Looks more like penguins to me.
Hey Jorge nice pics man
Another awesome adventure for us landlocked, keyboard-vacationers here in podunk. Thanks Jorge! Can't wait 'til January and more Hugo!
@Fat Lazy Guy.....(laughing helplessly, and hating herself for it!) You are bad, FLG.... bad! Think I'll go check on my dog now....
Cool statue...I want one of me holding my cat! LOL!
Dude! I tagged you for a meme on my blog.
